Memorial Day

Memorial day is a good day for family get-togethers and remembrance.  We did both of those today and through the weekend.  Been a busy weekend. But, a good, fun one, too. Decorated my sister, grandpa and grandma's graves yesterday to be ready for today. They look really nice.  Had dinner and lunch at my sister and her husband's home yesterday and today.  Saw old and new friends, too! Which was great!  Stayed active!  Kicked my workouts in the butt this weekend, too!  And had lots of great, quality time with my family.

Also, remembering that memorial day is a day to reflect on the men and women in uniform who fight and lose their lives for our freedom.  And thanking them for their service.  So thank you.

Now just chilling and doing some thinking.  Really just thinking how life has set-backs that we learn from.  And realizing, from those set-backs, that nothing will keep me down!  Remembering, that I have a fighting spirit!  So here's to fighting on!

Take care, friends.

Until Next Time.....

Five on Friday....

So in the hopes of getting back to my regular blogging, I decided to do a 5 on Friday!  :)  Enjoy!

It was a good day for golf!  However, the golf pro didn't show up!  What!?  Yep, I sat there for 45 minutes and finally left to run errands.  He did call me later and we got another appt. scheduled for next week.  He did offer me a free lesson because of the mistake!  So I'm happy and satisfied!  But my clubs weren't happy to be left in the car.  :(

I ran errands and went to the MAC Cosmetics counter at the mall to get some new "happys!" :)  By happy I mean lipstick, gloss, some shadow and mascara.  While getting my items, the sales lady told me I had beautiful eyes!  How sweet!  And it made my day!!  I almost gave her a tip! :)

Love my little family.  My hubby came home and made me dinner.  We are having some drinks together and lounging watching Modern Family.  Our son is happy, healthy and playing outside.  Love hearing his giggles!  Life is good.

Me and my guys at my sis's wedding in November.

It's Friday!  Love that it's Friday and we have a long weekend ahead of us.  Just makes me happy! :) We're also seeing Wicked tomorrow at the Omaha Orpheum Theater.   So excited.  It's our second time seeing it, and it's one of my FAVORITE Broadway shows!

Happy Memorial Day.   Remember why we have the extra day off and why we celebrate it.   Here's to a good day of family and remembrance.

Have a great weekend everyone!   Make it a good one! :)

Until Next Time....

When God....

I firmly believe that when God closes a door, he opens a window.  Some days it's harder to believe that than others.  But, I have to keep believing that he is there for me during hard times.  During the good and the bad.  He is my strength and protector.  So when that door closes....the window eventually does open.  Maybe not in your time.....but in God's time.   And maybe the window isn't at all what you thought is would be, but it's still there waiting for you.  So that's where I am.  To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under Heaven.

It's been awhile since I've been here.  I hope to be back more now that summer is beginning for me. God willing I can keep up with it.  I enjoy my time here.  I'd like to see this grow and go somewhere fun.  So that's a new focus.  Prayers and good thoughts.  That's what I need.

Have a blessed day.

So, yeah....

This month of blogging daily thing just didn't happen.  Got to be honest about it.  I've been busy.   Very, very busy.  Teaching, prepping classes, grades, emails, student issues, etc, etc.  So, I'm done feeling guilty.  Done.  It just didn't happen.  Maybe I'll try again in the summer when my schedule settles down.  But for now, I'm back to blogging when I can.  That's what this blog is about.  Me.  And right now, I can't make it happen. And I promised myself this blog would never become a struggle or a source of angst.  So, now I move on from that.  But....stayed tuned.  Maybe, the month of blogging will happen between June to August. When I have the summer "off" and have more time.  For now, you get the blessing of my blogging randoms!  Yay!

Here's a great quote for today! Because well, I'm random....

Until Next Time....

Busy, busy week!

Sorry for the delay in posting for the March writing challenge this week.  Honestly the questions/prompts asked weren't leading me to lengthy answers, so I decided to do it all at once in one BIG post for the week!

So right now I'll just say....Happy Friday!  AND Happy Pi Day!  Mmmmm.....Pie! :)

What Have I Learned from Blogging?

Day 5 Writing Challenge:

Friday, March 7, 2014
What have you learned about yourself through blogging?

Well, honestly, I haven't been blogging that long, so I haven't learned all that much about myself. I'm still learning.  But I will say that I am a work in progress.  And I don't have to be perfect or make my life seem perfect like other sites and outlets socially.  Here, I can just be me.  I like that....A Lot!  I am learning not to make every post these epic ones with all kinds of texts and pictues too!  It's exhausting!  And then when I feel like I have to post in that capacity, I procrastinate or just don't do them.  So I'm learning and growing with this blogging and that's good.  Looking forward to the continued journey and where it takes me.

Oh and Happy Friday!  Yay, it's the Weekend!! :)

Truer Words Have Never Been Spoken! :)

Friday Funny!  This cracked me up! :)

Until Next Time....

Day 4 Post. Sorry It's Late!

March 6
Day 4 Writing Challenge:  Does Blogging Bring out the Best or Worst in Me?

That's a loaded question!   Ok, I'd say both.  Sorry, got to split the middle.  Sometimes it makes me see the positive in my life and what's around me so then I write about it.  Sometimes I want to write cute, fun, quirky little posts and pictures.   That's me on that day.

But then some days, I don't want to post so then my procrastination comes out in full force!  Then I chastise myself for not posting and this whole vicious cycle ensues.  Queen of Procrastination....right here! :)

So, yep, I'd say both the good and the bad come out in me and that's ok.  Some days I'm not wanting to post happy stuff, so I don't.  And that's me.  Some days I do.  And that's me, too.  That's me.  For good or bad.  Take it or leave it.

And I like that this is my space and I can be open and free like that.

YEP! :)

Until Next Time....

When and where do I most feel like myself?

March Writing Challenge.....Day 3!

March 5
When or Where Do You Feel Most Like Yourself?

This is an easy one.  I most feel like myself at home with my husband and son.  Frank and I have been married almost 15 years and together over 21 years.  He is without a doubt, my best friend.  I can say anything to him, be anything around him, look anyway my little heart desires at the time and he loves me unconditionally.  He is my one true love, my forever soul mate and life-long friend.  God knew what he was doing the day he put him in my life.

This is us at my sister's wedding in November.

This was us at our wedding 14+ years ago. Same church! :)

I am most myself in my home too.  Our house was built in 1907 and we live in the oldest neighborhood in our small town.  Back when the town was settled, they called them “editions” and I believe they still do, so our edition is the “Winter edition.”  We live in a great neighborhood too!  We all look out for each other.  :)

Our house is so old that our garage used to be a carriage house and barn!  Seriously!  Our house is a Bungalow/Frank Lloyd Wright-style home with gorgeous real oak floors, columns, inlaid floor, huge real wood fireplace and it’s so cozy, homey and full of love.

Our Lovely, Cozy Little Home!

So yes, I feel most like myself in our beautiful, old, 107 year old house with my hubby, Frank and little man, Nolan.  They are the greatest blessings and treasures in my life!   I thank God everyday for them.

Until Next Time....

My Writing Voice....

March Writing Challenge....Day Two!

Tuesday, March 4, 2013
How is your writing voice like you? How does your writing voice differ from you?

I would have to say that my writing voice is the most similar to who I am as a person. Most of the time i don't take things too seriously and I can usually find the humor in my situations.  I am more of a humorous writer by nature and that's how I tend to think too.  So I write how i think.  That's my "voice."  And in actuality, if you know me, that's my voice too.  I am funny.  I'm not afraid to admit it.  I'm goofy.  Silly.  Whatever you want to call it.  And that's how I write.  But I do take things seriously when they need to be taken seriously.  I don't mock what shouldn't be mocked, etc.  Mama raised me better than that!

How is it different?  Lately it's been a lot more serious   And it's been a lot more "dark" because of things taking place in my life.  And that's not my usual voice.  That's not the usual me. But, if that's the season of my life then it's going to be reflected in my writing.  Whether it's here or on the pages.  I write from life.

So sometimes I write humorous and sometimes  I write serious.  I guess I'm an enigma that way.  I like to keep people guessing and on their toes!

Until Next Time....

Monthly Blogging Challenge....Day One!

Today is the day I start a month-long commitment to writing and I'm participating in the BlogHer challenge for March.  Monday through Friday I am given prompts to write about and then I set off to write!  That's it!   And, the theme this month is (drumroll!!) SELF! :)  And yep, I LOVE to write about ME! I go!

Monday, March 3, 2013
Tell us five interesting things about yourself.

1.  I am a twin.  Most who read this blog know that.  Some don't.  So there you have it.  I'm have a twin sis, Alesha.  And I love her dearly.   Here we are  at her recent wedding in November:

Not a great picture....but the most recent one I have of us together.

2.  I am a published writer.  I have been writing since I was 8 years old.  I love to write.  I was first published at 12 years old.  I've been published 2 times in my writing career.  I don't do this full time or NEAR as much as I would like to.  But it's my passion.  I love how I feel when I am into a good piece of written work.

3. I don't like cilantro.  Or snakes.  I know those two things don't go together at all, but I just couldn't decide which one I wanted to share.  But cilantro just grosses me out and snakes just creep me out.

4. If I could do anything in this world and money was no object, I would open a flower shop/coffee shop/used book store.  I love everything about that little trio!  I would LOVE to do something fun like that.  I would never get bored or tired of it either.  Someday.  Maybe someday. :)

5.  I am getting my PhD in Education.  I am writing my dissertation which is the final stage of the process.  That is the longest part of the process too.  Someday I'll be done!  Ahhh.....someday!

So there you have it.  Day one....check!   I hope you enjoy it.  Can't wait for the rest of the month!

Until Next Time...

Land of the Living? Perhaps....

So, I've been absent for some time now.  Why you ask?  Well...that's a truckload of information!  I've been around, but out of the game.  Out of it.   Just needed time to just be.  Just be me and figure out this thing called life.  And where it's going and make sense of it all.

How's that going you ask?  Well.....I'll get back to you on that.  Don't know.  No concrete answers.  I'm still a work in progress.  Aren't we all?   Yes we are.  Almost everyone may not admit it, but we are.  I don't know anyone who has all their crap together.  They may say they do.  They may look like it on the outside.   They may FAKE it on Facebook, but they don't.  I'm just not going to fake it anymore.

I'm here.  I am who I am.  And that's all I can give.  Still doing my thing.  Still working too much, going to school/trying to get this stupid PhD, still writing a dissertation.  Still a mom.  Still a wife.  Still trying to live life.  Trying.  And thinking about this blog.  I may take some of it in a new direction, but that's still in the works.  And by "works" I mean in my mind swirling around!

So....starting Monday, I'm going to be participating in BlogHer's monthly blogging challenge which coincidently the theme is:  SELF!   It's all about ME for the month!   Yay!  I like things being all about ME and I'm not afraid to admit it!

So....join me Monday-Friday for the month of March as I work my way through the theme of Self and the prescribed writing prompts that "prompt" me to share things about myself with readers.  Kind of excited to take on this challenge and see what the prompts are!  Should be fun....and interesting!

So what have we/I been up to since I last posted?  Here's a brief rundown:

Happy Birthday, Nolan!

Happy Birthday to our "little" man, Nolan James!

Nolan's 8 years old today and that's very hard to believe!!  It's hard to believe that exactly eight years ago today, I was at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska in labor.  Waiting for this little miracle to appear!  And 13 hours of labor and 3.5 hours of pushing later....Nolan James Stamm made his appearance into the world and into our family.  And we became a family of three!   And Nolan blessed and enriched our entire family!

January 25
 8 Years Old!!

More presents will be opened at the party today!

Pizza, bowling and friends = a GOOD day!

New tshirts and a basketball hoop for the driveway!  (BB hoop will be here in another week.  Had to order it!)

Hard to believe it's eight years later.  The time is going much too fast!  And all moms can attest to that fact, too.  He's still my little boy and always will be!  And I love him more everyday (even on the days like yesterday [well really this whole week!] when I want to pack his hobo bag and drop him off with Aunt Alesha and Uncle Mark!)  But, that's him growing up and testing the waters....and our patience!  But again, he's our miracle and we wouldn't have it any other way.  Thank you God for giving us the miracle and blessing that is Nolan James Stamm!  We love you so much sweetie!  And can't wait to see the years unfold before you and where life takes you!

Happy 8th Birthday!  We Love You!

Until Next Time....And mom to a now 8 year old!  Wow!
