What's Up Wednesday!

Today, because of the weather, I've been thinking about football!  College football!  I love me some Husker football on a gorgeous fall Saturday!  So today, I've been "jones-ing" for some football and can't wait for it to get here!  I also saw this today and got me thinking about Nebraska football and I have to get one of these!  For me, my parents and my sister!!  We all have Husker pups! :)

Hopefully we can score some tickets this year and see the boys in red play! I love the countdown that Husker Football is doing on Facebook.  I'm not on FB, but I've seen it on my hubby's wall.  They did it last year and it's pretty cool!  So right now we are down to....

31 days until kickoff!!!

It will be here before we know it and I for one am excited!  I love the fall, cooler weather and college football!  Especially Nebraska football! :)

Found this video on Youtube and it's really good!  Love the ending with Jack Hoffman.  Such a special little guy and Nebraska fan!  And what the team has done for him and his family is amazing.  Hate Husker football if you must, but you can't watch the end of this video and not see the love, giving and support there.   It's what our team and coaches are known for.  It's what Husker fans are known for! That moment with Jack Hoffman won him an Espy!  Such an honor and brings such awareness to their plight and message.  Amazing!

This is a video from the Espy's and Jack winning the Best Moment award. (Sorry it's not the greatest video because it appears to be recorded as someone is watching it on TV, but it's the best one I could find.  You get the point and the message loud and clear.  Makes me PROUD to be a Husker fan!

Espy Best Moment Award

31 days and counting!  Go Big Red!

And that's "What's Up" on this Wednesday! :)

Always a Bridesmaid....Oh wait....that's not right!

So needless-to-say, I survived the weekend!  I'm back!  It was a gorgeous weekend in Iowa the end of the week and weekend.  So we spent time outside and active. But, back to the original point of the post:  I can't say I'm always a bridesmaid, never a bride because yep, I'm married! And have been for almost 14 years.  Wow!  So I would say, always a bride (married), never a bridesmaid!  My sister's wedding will be like the 4th time I've been a bridesmaid and second time being a Maid/Matron of Honor.  And the last time I did this was 14 years ago before we got married!  So, I am super-excited to be in Alesha and Mark's wedding and be a bridesmaid again!  Especially after finding a FABULOUS dress to wear as I perform my duties as the Matron of Honor and party the day/night away!

The biggest item on the agenda for the weekend was shopping for bridesmaids dresses for my twin sis's wedding!  I couldn't help but think of one of my FAV movies during our morning/afternoon of brunching and dress shopping:

We met for brunch in the Big "O" and then went to David's Bridal for dress-trying-on-palooza!!  And we all settled on the ones we want for the big day!  My sister is letting us all choose what we want only they all have to be the color Plum, which is gorgeous!  So after many ins and outs of the dressing rooms, we all settled on THE ONE for the wedding!  Yay!  And we're all going to look spectacular!   I'm not going to share which one I chose until the wedding!  You know....cuz I like the suspense and drama! :)   But, it's beautiful and SO me!!!  Can't wait!

I also can't wait to spend the wedding festivities with the bridesmaids Alesha has chosen because they are ALL my friends and we have a great time together!!  Lots of fun and laughs!   I didn't take too many pictures of our day-oh-fun, so sorry there isn't much to share.  But thankfully our time was better spent than theirs at the bridal shop:

One of the funniest parts of the movie!  Love it!

So we laughed a lot of about this movie and some similarities that did happen that day, but it wasn't anything like the movie! :)  We all do bring such different personalities to the party!  Wedding party that is!  I should create one of these!

Hmmm.....which one would I be!?  Probably NOT the "innocent one!"  HA!!

It'll be here before we know it!  And lots of fun things in between.  In the meantime, THE DRESS for me is getting ordered this week!  Yay!  Can't wait to see it in the Plum color and ON ME in that lovely color!  We are all going to look AMAZING!  And we're going to be the best stone-cold pack of weirdos for Alesha that any bride has ever had stand up with her! :)

Happy Monday, friends!

5 on Friday!

For my first Friday post, I wanted to do a "5 on Friday" for everyone!  You just write a blog about five things on your mind today (this week), anything goes!  So....here I go!

1. The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever.
Yep, I'm talking about Hostess products!  Glorious Twinkies  fabulous cupcakes, amazing little powder donuts and spectacular little chocolate donuts (they are the breakfast of champions you know! :)  I've mourned their passing incredibly hard, so when I heard they were coming back, well, I just about shouted from my rooftop!  Seriously!  I think....think I did a little dance!  But I confess to nothing!   I LOVE me some Twinkies!  Nolan was pretty much formed in momma's tummy on Twinkies so I am pleased as punch they're back, baby!  Yahoo!!  So truly it is the SWEETEST COMEBACK IN THE HISTORY OF EVER! :)  Thank you Hostess!  I'm in heaven!  YUM!

2. Fall-like weather!
Our weather has been fantastic! Highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's and 60's!  It reminds me of fall!  And I love fall!!  Fall is my favorite time of year!  So I'm loving weather that is giving me that fall-feeling so early!  I know it will go away, but I'll take what I can get! :)  Fall is Fabulous!  Fall is my happy place!   And I love fall in Iowa! :)

3.  Date night at home.
I am enjoying my date night at home with my hubby!  Our little man is spending the night with his grandparents so that leaves us home alone.  And we like it when we get some time to spend together alone and it's even better in our jammies at home!  We did go for a long walk in the crisp autumn-like evening we're having with Alesha and Mark (and Miss B - Alesha's Cocker Spaniel).  It felt great!  Then we came home, had a yummy, healthy dinner and are watching some TV in our basement family room on the BIG TV!  Right now we're watching Scandal and loving it!  So a great date night at home!

4. Bridesmaid dress shopping.
Tomorrow we're going bridesmaid dress shopping with a few of Alesha's bridesmaids that live in the area.  So Alesha, me, Sheila, Christine and Becky are heading to David's Bridal to start the hunt for bridesmaid dresses!   Alesha made a FABULOUS decision and is letting us all choose our own dresses they just all have to be the same color: Plum.  Which is gorgeous!  So I put some of my choices in my favorites list and will see what looks good tomorrow.  And I have to remember that tomorrow is just a starting place!  I'm not deciding or buying!  Just looking and getting an idea what might work.  So far, these three are my favorites!  Can't wait to try them on!   Can't wait to spend the morning and first part of the afternoon with my sis and friends!  Definitely a "stone-cold pack of weirdos!"  Lots of laughs! Love it!  It's going to be fun! :)

5.  My parents "cruise around our small town" golf cart!
My parents bought a used golf cart from some friends to cruise around town since we live in a town of 1500 people!  Several people have them and it works.  So they brought it by last Sunday and Nolan is enamored with it!  He cruised around with Gpa Mike on Sunday and then again tonight he got to drive it around their place by himself and was loving every minute of it!  But who wouldn't!?  When I was 7, I would have been in heaven!  So that's Nolan's new toy! :)  Look at that smile!  Awww....to be that young and innocent again!  Love that smile! :)

Phew!  I just made it before the clock clicked over to midnight our time!  My first 5 on Friday!
Enjoy! :)

There's no crying in baseball! Dissertation writing, sure. But, baseball? Absolutely not!

First, I have to say how happy and excited I am that my favicon is visible now!  Jenn said it might take a few days for the coding to work its magic so patiently I've waited!  And today it's there!  If you don't know what a "favicon" is, (trust me, I didn't either), it's the little picture next to the URL.  So mine is a little window like on my header that Jenn designed.  If you don't' have one designed, you just have the "B" for the Blogspot.  But, I wanted something unique and special!  I deserve that right!?  So, Jenn, my Fab designer made me my very own little favicon window!  Yay!

Ok, now that we've covered that, I want to share my thoughts on something. And it's this...."There's no crying in baseball!" This is one of my favorite scenes in a movie:

And today, I literally yelled this to myself in my basement office as I worked on my dissertation.  Only substitute baseball for dissertation. "Vicki, there's no crying in dissertation writing!" Then I said, (again, to myself, because well, I talk to myself a lot while writing this dissertation.) "I beg to differ!"  There may be no crying in baseball, folks, but there sure as heck is in dissertation writing and I can attest to that!  Many times over!  It's hard.  Hard, hard work!  When they tell us, or you hear that they don't just give doctorate degrees away.... they're right!  Whoever "they" are. They say you EARN a doctorate degree and again, I can attest to this.  You earn it through tears, lots of tears, frustrations, ups, downs, fears, feelings of inadequacy, anger, shame, heartache and loneliness among other things.

I've sat now for 4 hours in my office researching, reading, combing through research and note taking.  I'm beat!  Although I feel like I could go run a race!  So I'm mentally exhausted but physically pumped because of sitting in one place for so long!  I may have to use the ole' exercise room to its fullest tonight!  Lookout treadmill and elliptical!!  So today, there's no crying....there's earning.  I'm earning this degree whether it kills me or not.  And yes, there will be more tears.  I can promise you that!  Just not today.

And yes, this year in baseball I said that line to our son, probably more times than I care to admit!  Because there may be crying in disseration work, but did we learn nothing from Tom Hanks!?  "There's no crying in baseball!" :)

So this was my day.  My MacBook Air, dual computer monitors, lots and lots of research, my pup, Izzie laying on the floor next to me, Pandora Radio playing and of course my Diet Coke!  Thinking juice! ;)  Happy Thursday.  But tomorrow is Friday, so things are looking up! :)

Awww....note taking and research!

Multi-tasking at its finest!  Pandora helps to pass the time too! :)

Izzie pup is passed out!

And since I love Tom Hanks and all of comedic goodness, and because we're on the subject of baseball and this movie, and well, because I have an "I'm gonna win!" attitude today, here is another gem....

Gosh I love Tom Hanks!  He's genius! :)

Dissertations, Bewitched, Pretty Wicked Moms & James Van Der Beek! What!? (Now that's a post I can get into!)

Well, today I'm working on my dissertation.  Still!  I took about 6 months off for very personal reasons and this summer brought myself back in the game.  I may be sidelined, but I'm never out!   BUT, I forgot how taxing and time-consuming of a process it was.  Well, I didn't really "forget" so much as I just pushed it to the back of my mind.  Now it's back in the forefront and I'm wanting to rebel!  Seriously!  I know I need to get something done today, but I can't find my groove.  Why can't I just snap my fingers and have it done!  Or twitch my nose!   Come on Samantha where are you when I need you?!

Fine, Samantha!  You win!  I need to just drag my bum from my cozy chair and head to my basement office and start doing some research.   Here I go.....any second now.....I'm going.....you can't stop me!  Ugh, Fine!  I now imagine myself stomping off like a child.  I guess when they give me the title of Dr. I shouldn't remember this finest of moments! :)

But, a dissertation or really anything won't get done sitting here watching my new obsession, "Pretty Wicked Moms" on Lifetime.  But, damn those ladies are entertaining!  Holy cow!   I personally enjoy the one who brings her freaking dog to the play dates and everything else!  What the!?  Seriously she needs to get a grip!  Or the divorced mom who brings her like 11 year old daughter to play dates with 2 and 3 year olds!  Can we say DB (Designated Babysitter!)!!  Seriously!  This show is a cry for help and honestly makes me feel smarter than I probably am (my 7 year old is probably smarter than these women truth be told!), but I LOVE watching it!  I've always thought Alesha and I would make an interesting reality show.  Heck, our whole freaking family would!  The Real Housewives of Woodbine!  Oh, plenty of viewership there, ya'll!   Ok, enough of that.  But, if you want to take like an hour and help remember that you and your life are normal and not so bad, please watch this show. It will renew your faith in your own life.  I promise!  And it's darn entertaining!

These women are straight-up crazy!  And I like it! :)

Ok, so off I go to get something....anything done.  At least until Alesha gets here to workout in my FAB exercise room! (I'll share more on that later, too.)  Got to get in shape for the wedding in November!  It'll be here before we know it.  Bridesmaid dress shopping Saturday!  That should be interesting since I'm nowhere near the size I want to be!!  But I digress! :/

So on that note, I'll close, but I can't leave without sharing something that brought me a laugh today.  Here you go....hope you get a chuckle too! :)

Oh James!  I still love you!  And this commercial cracks me up!!

Have a good day, friends!

Move in Day!

I have thought about this blog and this post for some time now. Where to start?  Where to start?   This blog has been in the works (in my head) for a couple of years.  It's been "physically" in the works since April.  Then it was in the hands of my fabulous designer, Jenn from Munchkinland Designs who is AWESOME by the way!  She very skillfully and artfully crafted me a new home to move into.  I mean, come on....you don't usually move into a new home the first day you buy it!  Well, I sure as heck wasn't going to!  No, usually you go in, look around, take the time to put your own stamp on it.  Make it your own.  So that's what I did!  With Jenn's much-needed help and design expertise, I made this home and place my home.  And, I love it!  No, wait, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!  It's beautiful and it's me!  I'm home!

Here's what it was before:

And you've seen the after soooo....BIG difference!  She's a miracle worker!  Love her!

So now I will start this new thing called blogging.  And we'll see how and where it goes.  I'm excited, yet nervous and trepidatious. Will they like me!?  I wonder.  It's like the first day at a new school.  I'm looking around anxiously and hoping to be accepted.  We shall see!  But, I know I have a rockin' "outfit" on for my first day!  Yes, I just likened my new, beautiful blog to a smokin' hot outfit!  Don't judge! :)

So here I am blog world!  Just me and views.  It's not a DIY blog.  It's not a fashion blog.  It's not a weight loss blog.  It's not a food/recipe blog.  We're not remodeling our 100 year old home and blogging about it.  Nope.  It's just my views and thoughts on life.  My life.  The life around me. The ups and the downs.  It's a little bit of this and a little bit of that. You'll see it all.  I may talk fashion....I may talk weight loss and exercise.  I may talk food and favorite recipes.  I may talk about our house and I may talk about my family.  I may get personal and very real, and then I may just chat and let off steam.  Maybe some funny thrown in!  Silly is good! :)  I love movie quotes.  I may throw those in, too.  Why not!?  That's what this is for.  For me. So I guess you could call it a "lifestyle" blog?  But, I don't know if I like that word/phrase/title either.  I'll keep working on it!  And if you want to follow me on this journey and share in these views, I'd be more than happy to have you along for the ride.  Either way....I'll be here.  Just enjoying the view!

So I want to say a big, heartfelt, sincere thanks to Jenn at Munchkinland Designs for all of her hard work, dedication, patience, design abilities and fabulous skills!   She's AMAAHHHZZING!   And yes, I said, "AMAAHHHZZING!"  Because that's what she is!  Give her a holler if you're in the market for great design of anything!  She's my go-to gal from now on! :)

So, friends, here I am.  Finally, up and running!  Fasten those seat belts, secure your tray tables, seats in upright positions, please and enjoy the ride!   Welcome to my home!  And....Welcome to my life!

And once you get to know me better:  You'll understand this speaks volumes about lil' ole' me! ;)
